You’ve heard of dinner and a movie. Here’s my version: dinner and a story. I gave you the recipe for my creamy roasted garlic mashed potatoes earlier this week. Serve those with this saucy honey apple pork tenderloin and a side of green beans sautéed with a little soy sauce until they’re bright green, but still crisp. Then, follow that up with the dark chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting that I posted last year around this time and you’ve got yourself an amazing, at home Valentine’s meal. So there’s dinner and here’s the story:Continue Reading
It’s official. I’m a newly converted North Carolinian. I have a license and everything! I even had a super fun trip to the DMV. About two hours in, we were told that the DMV computer system for the ENTIRE STATE had crashed and that no one could do anything until it was back up. Luckily, it wasn’t down as long as I thought it would be and we were able to get in and out of the DMV in just three hours!Continue Reading
Do you guys ever feel like dinner has gotten boring? Like you’ve been eating the same kind of stuff over and over again….like you’re stuck in a rut. I mean, the dishes are different, and they’re all delicious, but after the umpteenth time you’ve had chili, you’re ready for a change! Well, sometimes I start to feel that way in the winter. Uh, hello? Is this my blog? Or is this the power company? Or the water company? Or the plumber? Or the electrician? Or the refrigerator repair man? Or, or, or…..

No, really, who does know? I definitely don’t. In fact, I’m actively trying to repress the last few weeks so that next time we need to move, I will happily start the process over full of blissful ignorance!
The long and short, though, is that we moved. We moved and now know where MOST of our belongings are. I mean, they’re all in the house, but there are still a few items in boxes.Continue Reading
So when you read food blogs, you probably think, “Man, I bet they bring the most amazing, beautiful dishes to parties.” I can’t really speak for anyone other than myself, but that is soooo NOT true. At least not until this very moment. Hopefully this is not just me, but with everything else I’m doing in a week, when it rolls around to Friday afternoon and I should be pulling together my dish for the party that evening, I just feel tired. Instead of taking the time to make some cute little dish that everyone fawns over at the party (come on, you totally know what I’m talking about!), I feel a lot more like stopping by the grocery on my way to the actual event and picking up potato salad or chips and salsa or crackers and cheese or hummus. You know, anything that I don’t have to make when my brain feels Friday-frozen.Continue Reading
